Savvusann

Heat a Võro smoke sauna in your browser.

In Võromaa, in southeast Estonia, smoke saunas are still heated the old way: no chimney, a fire that burns for hours, and smoke let out just before the first steam. The tradition has been on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage since 2014. Savvusann gives you one evening by the pond to heat a sauna yourself, picking up words in Võro, Estonian and Finnish as you go.

Eesti mõisad

What if Estonia’s manor houses had all survived?

Estonia once had more than a thousand manors. Many were burned, demolished or left to fall apart. Eesti mõisad is a cinematic flight over a 3D map of the country that imagines how it would look today if they were all still standing. Scrub through three centuries, filter the lost against the preserved, and open archive photographs of each house along the way.
