From Võru to North Carolina: Wermo's quiet American success
A furniture maker from my home county sold about €2.5 million in the US in 2024 and runs a warehouse in North Carolina. Its US web address still sends Americans to the Estonian site.

A furniture maker from Võru, the county seat of Võrumaa in southern Estonia, where I grew up, runs a warehouse and showroom in Conover, North Carolina. According to Trade with Estonia, it sold about €2.5 million worth of furniture in the US in 2024, largely through Amazon, and has been considering production in the US.
That's Wermo, and it is one of the best Estonian export stories you have probably never heard. But when I looked at its web presence for the US-Readiness Index, its US web address redirected to the Estonian site. An American retailer or interior designer checking the company out lands on a page built for Europe.
What I would change
1. Make the US domain a real US site
The North Carolina address and US phone number already exist. Put them on a US site with American copy and a link to the Amazon store, so buyers can go from "who are these people?" to a purchase in two clicks.
2. Dimensions in inches
Furniture is bought by the inch in America. Every product needs width, depth and height in inches, and weight in pounds.
3. State formaldehyde compliance
US retailers and many consumers look for CARB and TSCA Title VI compliance on anything made with wood panels. If Wermo's products comply, saying so removes a common question from every wholesale conversation.
The hard parts, the warehouse, the customers and the sales, are done. The website is the easy part, and right now it is underselling one of Võrumaa's quiet success stories.
Based on Wermo's public websites and Trade with Estonia's 2025 profile, as of October 17, 2026. I have no business relationship with Wermo.
Selling to American buyers? I help Estonian, Nordic and Baltic companies adapt their websites, messaging and launch materials for the US market.
