Urban Luxury

Digital art, photography and photo manipulation

Photographs of apartment façades from across Manhattan, tiled and mirrored until the buildings dissolve into pattern — lace, beadwork, the repeat of a woven textile.

Glamour has become an ordinary part of daily life: not only the glamour of celebrity, but the pull to present oneself as part of it. A building front is the city’s most literal version of that. Windows lit and unlit, each one a household, arranged into a surface that reads as ornament from far enough away.

The jewellery is the argument. What makes a piece worth anything is rarely one bright stone; it is the setting, many small parts held in relation. A city block works the same way — people living side by side, adjusting to each other, each still going after something of their own.
