ChatGPT, the language model developed by OpenAI, has the potential to change how small businesses create their branding and messaging.

Content at a scale small teams couldn't manage before

Small businesses often lack the time or budget to produce enough good content. ChatGPT can draft social posts, website copy and blog articles in a brand's voice and tone, which a person then edits and approves.

Naming and creative ideas

It can generate many options for slogans, product names and ad copy, so a team can choose the ones that resonate most with their audience.

Faster customer service

Used carefully, it can help draft responses to customer questions, reducing response times. It can also help analyze customer feedback to find recurring pain points.

Understanding the audience

Language models can classify text and gauge sentiment, helping brands understand how people respond to their messaging and adjust.

Update, 2026: the potential turned out to be real, and so did the need for human judgment. See AI chat on a B2B website for what I've learned since.
